What We Believe

“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” —A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

In essentials we have unity.

“There is one Body and one Spirit...there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of us all...”
—Eph. 4:4-6

In non-essentials we have liberty.

“Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters... Who are you to judge someone else's servant? To his own master he stands or falls... So then each of us will give an account of himself to God... So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God.”
—Romans 14:1, 4, 12, 22

In everything we show charity.

“If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.”
—1 Cor. 13:2

God

Jesus

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

(Genesis 1:1,26,27, 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. He is, also, the head of the church.

(Matthew 1:22, 23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14,15; 1 Corinthians 15:3,4; Romans 1:3,4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14,15; Titus 2:13)

Holy Spirit

The Bible

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily.

(2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16,17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18)

The Bible is God's Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without any mixture of error.

(2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20,21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105,160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5)

Humanity

Salvation

People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God's creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin". This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life.

(Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1, 2)

Salvation is God's free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin's penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.

(Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8,9; John 14:6, 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1)

Eternal Security

Eternity

Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. If you have been genuinely saved, you cannot "lose" it. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives us this security.

(John 10:29; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25, 10:10,14; 1 Peter 1:3-5)

People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.

(John 3:16; John 14:17; Romans 6:23; Romans 8:17-18; Revelation 20:15; 1 Cor. 2:7)

The Church

Creation

The church, which is the body of Christ and Christ Himself being the head, is a spiritual organism made up of baptized believers, associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel, exercising their gifts, talents and resources to the building up of the body, led by godly pastors, elders, and deacons.

(Ephesians 1:22-23; 5:25-27; I Corinthians 12:12-14)
We believe in the Genesis account of the creation of all things from nothing by God’s spoken word; that it is to be accepted literally, and not allegorically or figuratively; that man’s creation was direct, in God’s image, and not a matter of evolutionary change of species of interminable periods of time from lower to higher forms; that all animals and vegetable life were made directly; and that God’s established law was that they should bring forth only “after their kind." Special creation of the existing space-time universe and all its basic systems and kinds of organisms took place in the six literal days of the creation week. We believe in the full historicity and perspicuity of the biblical record of primeval history, including the literal existence of Adam and Eve as the progenitors of all people, the literal fall and resultant divine curse on the creation, the worldwide cataclysmic deluge and the origin of nations and languages at the tower of Babel.

(Gen. 1; 1:21-25, 27; 2; 2:20-22; 3; 3:20; 7:17-24; 11:7-9; Ex. 20:11; 31:17; Ps. 33:6-9; Mk. 10:6; Jn.1:3; Jn. 5:46-47; Rom. 1:18- 25; Rom. 5:12-21; 1 Cor. 15:22; 1 Cor. 15:45; 1 Tim. 2:13; Heb. 11:3)

Abortion

Marriage

Abortion, as defined here, is the execution of life in the womb and this life begins at conception. Scripture confers full human status and nature beginning at conception and the unborn are referred to as persons. God knows us and relates to us personally from conception, and we are created in His image. No dichotomy is made between conception and birth in the establishment of a person’s existence. Likewise, scripture uses the same verbiage interchangeably to refer to both the born and the unborn. Consequently, unborn children are entitled to equitable laws of protection and retaliation as those of its mother. Since the unborn child is fully human and the killing of a human being is clearly condemned, abortion is unquestionably wrong. To the contrary, children are a special gift from God.

(Gen. 1:26-28; 4:1; 9:6; 25:21-22; Ex. 21:22-25; 23:7; Jg. 13:7; Job 3:3; Ps. 22:10; 51:5; 127:3-5; 139:13-16; Is. 49:1; Jer. 1:5; Mat. 5:21; Lk. 1:41,44; 2:12,16; Rom. 13:9; Gal. 1:15)

Marriage is an institution established by God consisting of one man and one woman without exception. It is a relationship sustained through enduring love and commitment for the purposes of completion (oneness), companionship and procreation . It is intended to be permanent as well as the priority relationship within the family context. Marriage is the only context in which love may be freely expressed through sexual intimacy. To be sexually active prior to or outside of marriage is out of step with God’s design, will and order for purity in marriage and is sin. As it is ordained by God as one man and one woman, marriage is not subordinate to the laws and whims of men who impose new definitions for marriage in order to accommodate lifestyles that are inconsistent with Scripture.

(Gen. 2:18-25; Ex. 20:17; Ps. 127:3-4; Prov. 5:18-20; Matt. 19:4-8; 1 Cor. 7:2-5, 9; Eph. 5:22-33; Titus 2:4; Heb. 13:4)

Homosexuality

Homosexuality is a perversion of God’s intended purpose for male-female sexual relations within the marriage context. It is not an alternative for believing followers of Jesus Christ. The practice, promotion and condoning of homosexuality is undeniably sinful and debased. This is not to say that those with homosexual desires can not be committed followers of Jesus Christ as they commit their life and sexuality to His Lordship.

(Lev.18:22; Rom. 1:26-27, 32; 1Cor. 6:9-10; 2 Cor.10:5; Gal 5:16-25; Phil. 4:8)
